The Situation in Afghanistan.Afghanistan is the only country in the world to ban women from education. Since September 2021, girls in Afghanistan have been banned from secondary school education. UNESCO estimates that 1.4 million girls in Afghanistan over the age of 12 have been displaced from schools and universities.
With no future prospects, more girls are being forced into marriage. Women's mental health is deteriorating, with suicide attempts soaring. With a ban on female teachers, and a return to extreme religious teaching, there is also a decline in the quality of boys' education in many provinces in Afghanistan. Women and girls are living under a veil of oppression and gender apartheid. Without an education, opportunities for girls in Afghanistan are severely limited and they face a bleak future. We believe that ensuring women, girls and boys are educated is critical for a peaceful and stable Afghanistan. |
Our Philosophy. Both schools encourage the students to express themselves under the philosophy of ‘the pen instead of the gun’.
The students are encouraged to write and draw and regularly share their artwork and creative writing with teachers and staff. See their artwork and read their stories. |
Guiding Principles. The aims of both schools are to give young women and girls an opportunity to learn, in the absence of any formal education available to them officially in Afghanistan; whenever and however they can and are able to.
Ensuring women and girls are educated is critical for a peaceful and stable Afghanistan. Equality of education for all students is one of our guiding principles. We believe that boys should continue to learn alongside girls and women to help counter the extremist Taliban curriculum taught to boys in Afghan schools. Around 30% of our students are male. |
Safety Comes First. While we acknowledge the challenges involved, the safety of students, staff and volunteers involved is paramount. Through our holistic approach to education, we aim to foster peace, tolerance, gender equality, and life skills among our students. Our dedicated team, led by Angela Ghayour and supported by our experienced trustees and volunteers, is committed to realising our vision of a brighter future for the youth of Afghanistan.

Support Us.As we move forward, we invite partners, donors, and supporters to join us in our mission to empower women and girls through education and contribute to positive social change in Afghanistan and beyond.
